Capital One Cup: Manchester City host Newcastle in fourth-round live on Sk

Manchester City will be looking to maintain their defence of the Capital One Cup when they host Newcastle United on Wednesday.
Following a 2-1 loss to West Ham on Saturday, a defeat which saw them drop into third place in the Premier League, City will be aiming to get their season back on track with a win over Alan Pardew’s side.

History suggests that a home win is likely as Newcastle haven’t won against their opponents in Manchester since September 2000, when Alan Shearer scored the only goal in a 1-0 league win at former ground Maine Road.
However, the Magpies will be in upbeat mood having won back-to-back league games, with Sunday’s 2-1 win at Tottenham following the 1-0 home win against Leicester.
City have got this season’s Capital One Cup campaign off to a blistering start, by hammering a hapless Sheffield Wednesday 7-0 last month at the Etihad Stadium.
Newcastle, who have never progressed beyond the fourth round of a domestic competition under Pardew, have already featured in two Capital One Cup fixtures this season – away wins over Gillingham and Crystal Palace.
Manuel Pellegrini: Hoping to retain the Capital One Cup
Having sold out their 3,000 ticket allocation for the game, Newcastle fans are expected to provide a boisterous atmosphere for Wednesday’s mouth-watering clash.
Team news
City midfielders Frank Lampard (thigh) is out of the game, but Samir Nasri could make his return from a groin injury after Pellegrini confirmed that the Frenchman has been training with the squad.
Cheick Tiote and Papiss Cisse: Set to miss out
The City boss is expected to rotate his side in order to keep his key players fresh for their derby with Manchester United on Sunday, with goalkeeper Willy Caballero set to replace Joe Hart.
For Newcastle, Pardew will be without strikers Papiss Cisse and Emmanuel Riviere for the game after they missed the win over Spurs on Sunday through injury.
Defender Mike Williamson and Cheick Tiote will also be absent, while playmaker Siem de Jong and full-back Davide Santon are long-term absentees.
Watch Manchester City v Newcastle in the Capital One Cup fourth round live on Sky Sports 1 HD on Wednesday night, with coverage underway from 7.30pm.
